The São Bento Group was born in 2022, when Miguel Garcia acquired the famous Café de São Bento restaurant opposite the Assembly of the Republic and expanded it to the Time Out Market in Cais do Sodré. Since its foundation in 1982, Café de São Bento has been a unique place in Lisbon, known for serving the best steak in town.
In 2023, the renowned Bougain Restaurant & Garden Bar opened, located in a historic family home in the heart of Cascais. The menu features Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with classic Portuguese, French and Italian influences.
In 2024, the group opened Corleone Ristorante al Mare, in Casa da Villa, where the true classics of Italian cuisine are served overlooking the Bay of Cascais – an unmissable destination for lovers of real Italian cuisine and the freshest produce from Italy and Portugal.
Even at the end of 2024, it was time to reopen the mythical Snob Bar, a place frequented by politicians, journalists, intellectuals and artists, where gatherings intersect with the iconic Snob Steak late into the night.
In 2025, the best steaks in Lisbon arrived in Cascais, with the opening of a new Café de São Bento in the town’s historic centre. Cosy and elegant, it maintains the tradition and simplicity that made the original unmissable.
In the spring of 2025, the new Bougain Avenida secret garden will open on Avenida da Liberdade. The Mediterranean-inspired classic will conquer Lisbon with its atmosphere of elegant tranquillity and the impeccable signature of the São Bento Group.

In 2026, Lisbon’s best steaks will have another stage in the Pombaline downtown area, overlooking Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the historic area of theaters, music, and entertainment. True to its long-standing tradition, at the new Café de São Bento, the art of welcoming customers is as important as the famous steaks that have been making history in Lisbon for over 40 years.

Café de São Bento
At number 212 on Rua de São Bento, the red awnings that fill the facade immediately catch the eye.
Next to the Assembleia da República, it maintains a discreet, closed-door system. At the sound of the doorbell, the mystery is unveiled in an intimate, classically styled setting. The comfort of a good meal for lunch or dinner until late at night. It has two rooms: ground floor and 1st floor, with a privileged view of the São Bento Gardens. It only rivals the view of the freshly landed steak on the table.
After making history in Lisbon, the legendary steaks of Café de São Bento arrived in Cascais in 2025, with the opening of a new space in the town’s historic center.
In January 2026, it arrived in downtown Lisbon with a new space where the same tradition and the art of hospitality that have defined the establishment since 1982 are maintained.
